Robert Demers is responsible for Thuraya’s government market development, policy and partner support in the development of the government sector. He is tasked with evaluating, structuring, and expanding Thuraya’s government business globally, with special focus on the U.S. Government.
Prior to joining Thuraya, Robert was a Senior Vice President at SES World Skies U.S. Government Solutions (SES-USGS), responsible for Strategic Satellite Solutions and charged with developing strategic options for future spacecraft and bandwidth capacity, policy and hosted payloads. Prior to joining SES, Robert was Vice President of Government Solutions for Inmarsat. He established and led Inmarsat’s policy, government relations and market development efforts in the U.S. and Europe to integrate commercial and U.S. Government satellite communications.
Robert has over 20 years in the satellite industry spanning both narrow and broad band companies and was previously a U.S. Army Officer for more than 22 years; serving in various capacities as a combat helicopter pilot, Aviation Unit Commander and as the Secretary of the Army’s Liaison to the US Senate. He is married to Linda Harper, the Executive Director of a non-profit focused on Washington D.C.’s cultural tourism with a special interest on the city’s international aspects.
