Communications Manager

  • Job Purpose

  • The communications manager will have opportunities to support Thuraya’s global communications strategy, and will create and manage new communications initiatives while working with many different teams across Thuraya.
  • Principal Accountabilities

    • Support and manage the execution of external communications programs in support of Thuraya’s corporate communications goals
    • Dive deep on a wide range of issues across the business and satellite industry, developing relationships and working closely with a broad range of internal teams, service partners, customers and external organizations
    • Think big and be creative, looking around the corner to identify opportunities and risks 
    • Work across teams and geographies to help develop and manage corporate reputation, social responsibility and sponsorship programs
    • Deliver communications counsel and talking points to Thuraya’s executives on both short- and long-term challenges and opportunities
    • Manage complex, fast-moving and unexpected communications challenges, including crisis issues
    • Produce high-quality and engaging content for Thuraya’s various communication platforms, including: website, press releases, brochures, product materials, e-newsletters, social media, and case studies
    • Drive and nurture Thuraya’s Thought Leadership program by developing, researching and creating provocative and engaging content together with the Company’s subject matter experts
    • Support the VP of Marketing Communications in managing the PR approval process, PR distribution, press list updates, planning and executing press briefings, and outreach activities
    • Support the VP of Marketing Communications with media relations and outreach with trade and business press and industry market analysts
    • Responsible for media monitoring and distributing press clippings to internal stakeholders
    • Exceptional attention to detail with standards so high some would call them unreasonable
    • Proven ability to influence and earn trust with business leaders and other key stakeholders

  • Knowledge Skills and Experience

  • Preferred: holder of bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or Journalism; strong and thorough command of the English language, both written and verbal

    • 5+ years of communications/PR experience
    • Excellent writing skills (must be a native English speaker)
    • Experience in inventing creative communications and product launch campaigns from the ground-up, and a desire and ability to be creative and take ownership in creating new programs
    • Experience in B2B in the hi-tech sector, preferably in satellite or telecoms 
    • Strong media relations skills and desire to work with media proactively and develop new media relationships
    • Strong project management and multi-tasking abilities
    • Ability to exercise high judgment, particularly in narrow timeframes
    • Able to get up to speed on complicated and technical issues and develop creative, effective strategies that deliver results
    • An effective communicator, able to formulate clear points of view on complicated issues and create concise and well-written narratives to express them
    • Adept at dealing with ambiguity; able to form cohesive and effective strategies from potentially incongruous facts (or lack thereof) and individual perspectives
    • Willing to roll up sleeves and get work done, even when at times it's outside the scope of the job 
    • International travel required for a maximum of 20% of the time
