Thuraya Announces Partnership with Delnet International Corporation in the Philippines

Abu Dhabi, 24 February, 2022 :

Thuraya and Delnet are bringing game-changing land, maritime and aero mobility solutions to the Philippine market

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 24 February 2022: Thuraya Telecommunications Company, the mobile satellite services subsidiary of the UAE’s flagship satellite solutions provider, Al Yah Satellite Communications Company PJSC (“Yahsat” or, together with its subsidiaries, “the Group”) listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (“ADX”) under (SYMBOL: YAHSAT) (ISIN: AEA007501017), today announced that it has signed a partnership agreement authorizing the Philippines’ leading enterprise and maritime communication solutions provider, Delnet International Corporation, to distribute and sell its cutting-edge satellite mobility solutions in the country.

As a provider of critical communication technologies, Thuraya has been very active in the Philippines, more so after Typhoon Haiyan swept over the country in 2013. The Philippines represents a growing market for Thuraya, witnessing a record spurt in demand for its feature-rich and affordable maritime solutions in recent years. For more than a decade, Thuraya has enabled seamless voice, broadband and VSAT connectivity for NGOs, relief, maritime and enterprise users in the most difficult environments on land and at sea.

Aside from expanding its commercial reach, Thuraya has provided extensive support for emergency response, disaster mitigation and post-disaster relief operations in the Philippines, saving countless lives through timely contributions of satcom equipment and services. This is an enduring testament of the company’s commitment to helping underserved communities, especially in times of need.

“Agile, flexible and reliable connectivity represents an opportunity for all businesses, especially those operating in remote environments. The Philippines is a key market for Thuraya in the Asia Pacific, and we are very excited about our new partnership with Delnet, as their customers understand the value of excellent connectivity and digitalization. Thuraya’s high throughput, low latency data connectivity services represent a sustainable and economically viable solution for these operators. Moreover, we are trusted by the Philippine community as a result of our critical work during emergencies, and are keen to take this special relationship forward by joining hands with Delnet,” said Muiz Saad, Thuraya’s Executive Vice President of Sales.

The government, maritime, enterprise and IoT sectors in the Philippines are seeing rapid digitalization, and there is a growing need for satellite connectivity to fill the existing gap. But sustainable digital transformation can be fully realized, only if high quality satellite connections are made available at affordable prices. The new agreement enables Delnet to offer its customers Thuraya’s flexible, reliable and secure connectivity solutions, generating a lot of value and significant cost savings.

Having more than two decades’ experience in the ICT industry, Delnet is a reputed name in the Philippine marine communications industry and supports some of the largest national and international shipping enterprises based in the country. Furthermore, the company enables connectivity solutions for large, small and medium enterprises, and small office/home office (SOHO) users, wherever fixed-line access unavailable or uneconomical.

Klaas Oreel - Delnet CEO said: “Our partnership with Thuraya has grown significantly over the past few years. As the newly appointed official distributor of Thuraya in The Philippines, this will add even more value to our partnership. Delnet has 24 years of providing reliable and resilient customized solutions where mainstream communications systems are not available or viable. With Thuraya, we have been serving the communities in The Philippines with emergency communication services, especially after calamities such as Typhoon Odette. Beyond national organizations we also support LGU’s with emergency and disaster relief communications services. We look forward to many more years of serving The Philippines with Thuraya related products and services.”

The Thuraya-Delnet collaboration will introduce game-changing voice, broadband data, VSAT and IoT mobility solutions to complement the expansion of the Philippine economy. This suite will also include the Next Generation Broadband Products (NGBP) that are currently under production by the Danish communications solutions developer, Cobham SATCOM, as part of Thuraya’s landmark transformational programme. By unveiling an exciting range of future-proof satcom technologies for land, marine and aero platforms, Thuraya aims to provide a rich and comprehensive portfolio of mobile satellite services for its government, maritime and enterprise customers. Furthermore, Thuraya’s parent company, Yahsat, is upgrading its L-band network with 4G/5G capabilities, and is set to commence commercial operations on the fourth Thuraya satellite, Thuraya 4-NGS, in 2024.
